Shielding, Licensing, & More
Providing Everything You Need
Radiation
Shielding Design
California requires all areas where ionizing radiation is in use to be evaluated by a Qualified Diagnostic Medical Physicist for proper radiation shielding. By following guidelines in the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) reports and working with myriad architects, we ensure your radiation shielding designs meet all Federal, State, and local regulations:
Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 20; California Title 8 OSHA Codes; Title 12 Building Codes; and Title 17 Public Health Codes, Section 5 Sanitation, Subchapter 4 Radiation.
Radioactive Materials
License Applications
We adhere to California guidelines, as well as the NRC guidelines, for the submission of applications and amendments for the use of radioactive materials in nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET), and HDR. Our Qualified Nuclear Medical Physicist provides over thirty (30) years of experience in properly completing the licensing process while at the same time not over-committing to unnecessary and burdensome requirements. Our physicists are licensed to handle radioisotopes at all California licensed facilities; are licensed to conduct nuclear quality control activities; and are licensed to perform decommissioning procedures on behalf of our partners to terminate the use or isotopes and to release restricted areas.
Physics Consulting
QAS has been providing the highest standards of medical and health physics support services for thirty (30) years to both medical and industrial communities throughout California. In addition to required testing of radiation-producing equipment and to the routine filing of license applications and amendments, we assist in many other ways as well, such as, but not limited to:
• QAS physicists serve as the Radiation Safety Officers (RSO) for large medical centers, outpatient facilities, and physician offices throughout California.
• QAS physicists assist in the Accreditation process (CT, MRI, PET, Nuclear, Ultrasound)
• QAS physicists help procure hot lab equipment (Dose Calibrators, Well Counters, Sources, Shields)
• QAS physicists evaluate fetal, patient, and occupational worker radiation doses
• QAS physicists provide training for partner personnel on an as needed basis
